Like most of the world, I spent the morning watching snippets of the Royal Wedding. I wasn't a die hard fan staying up all night to watch the royal procession which came on at 1 a.m. PST. Instead, I recorded it and watched it at a more reasonable hour while Andrew and Benjy played in front of the TV.
Of course the news media celebrated the momentous occasion with all the hype expected. Diane Sawyer even suggested that viewers "wake up the children" for the historical event. My children were awake, but Jacob was at school, Andrew was completely oblivious to the pomp and circumstance, and Benjy really just wanted me to change the channel. Despite his scowling, I pointed out the key players to him and tried to convince him that what we were watching was important historically. The significance was, of course, lost on him, and he mainly played pirates in the floor.
"What are you playing Benjy?" I asked.
"These guys princes and going to a wedding, Mommy," he said. "They is brothers."
He'd outfitted two Lego men in royal uniform, one in black and one in red. Do you think it's just coincidence that Prince Harry has more hair than Prince William?
And I thought he wasn't paying attention.
