The Melancholy Painter

Every day when I pick up Benjy from school we have the same conversation. Without fail, it goes like this:

“Hey Benjy! How was your day?”

“Goooood,” he drawls unconvincingly.

“I missed you! What did you learn today?” I ask with enthusiasm.

“Nutheeng,” he responds, looking down.

“Nothing? That’s too bad. Well, what did you do today?” I try again.

He sighs and says with a shrug of great disappointment, “We didn’t paint.”

And I laugh, because his answer is always the same. They never, ever paint, even when his fingers are stained with the evidence.

When you take away his paints,
you take away his freedom.

  1. You crack me up! But yeah, I get those "Nuttin" answers when I pick my daughter up from school too. They never do anything fun but she often wants me to go back and pick her up later...
