Italian for Goodbye

A year ago we arrived in San Diego a bundle of mixed emotions, weary from the road and anxious to see our new home. Leaning against her car in the early morning sun, with a cheery smile spread across her face, was our social sponsor. She embraced us warmly, infecting us with her confidence and optimism, and I knew immediately that we were in good hands.

Yesterday, we said goodbye to her and her beloved family. Life won’t be the same in Tijuana without them, especially for Jacob, who is losing his best friends.  He won't talk about it much, but I know he's sad. So it didn’t come as much of a surprise when I found him today, hiding in their empty pantry, drowning his sorrows.

Thank goodness it was only Pellegrino.

Sorrows are best drowned in fancy water.

  1. The hardest part is watching the kids say good-bye to their friends, isn't it? I hate that.

  2. Oh man, poor kiddo! It really is the hardest thing. You guys can find humor in anything though. Sending him and you big hugs.
