When Chris sat down to help Jacob with his homework last night, laughter erupted from the dining room.
"This says that Jacob's to come dressed as a Mexican tomorrow," Chris said.
"What?" I questioned as I rushed to see the words myself. I google translated them just to be sure. It appeared that Chris was right.
So I called all the other moms with kids at the school to see if their kids had the same homework. None of them did.
The homework was clearly written in his Spanish teachers green pin and handwriting. Unless she was singling Jacob out for a cruel joke, we were fairly certain that he was indeed supposed to dress as a Mexican.
So I googled, "dress like a Mexican," and found out that it is the custom for kids to dress up as charros for Mexican Independence Day. And finally, my phone rang again, and another mother confirmed that her son said he was supposed to dress up, even though his assignment was not written down.
That's when we got really excited. Dress up is a favorite game in our house. We just needed to gather all the parts.
We bought mustaches off a street vendor that came to our car window while we were stopped at a light. Even Jacob thought this was "kinda odd."
The rest we found at a local market, where the ladies sized Jacob up and plopped the biggest sombrero I've ever seen on his head. He was ready.
As he walked out to the bus this morning, the driver laughed and said:
"¡Viva la revolución!"
This has got to be the greatest homework assignment ever!
ReplyDeleteViva Jacob!!! Love it (your blog) and love my darling.....he is so cute in that mustache! How fun for all of y'all!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I love Mexican Independence Day.
ReplyDeleteFantastic homework!! Love the results! I would say that buying a mustache from a street vendor is a bit odd. We ran into something similar in India when we were asked if we wanted to buy a beard while at the markets. We didn't but wish we had. You might think about getting a few of those mustaches, just for future assignments and just plain fun!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so so so fantastic. You guys are total overachievers.
ReplyDeleteGreatest mustache in the history of mustaches.
