Wii-ding Rainbow

"I've wanted a Wii for a long, long time," Jacob said nostalgically as we hooked up his new system today.

It was true.  He'd asked Santa every Christmas for a Wii, and every year Santa had refused to bring one. Jacob had resigned himself to never getting the coveted video game system, and instead, he'd waited for the moments when he could dominate the controller at a friend's house.

With me working this summer, I had to come up with a way to keep him busy. So, on his first day out of school, Jacob and I struck a deal.  I would pay him $5 for every book he read and wrote a report on, and he would deposit his hard-earned cash into his plastic piggy bank, affectionately dubbed the Wii Pot.  I've never seen a boy so devoted to reading.  Every day it seemed, he added another book report to his journal.  This morning, he logged the last book needed to purchase his Wii.

As he clutched his new controller possessively in his palm, I asked him, "Jacob didn't you enjoy reading the books at all?"

"Some of them," he said.

"I was hoping this experience would help you develop a new found love of reading."

He just laughed.  Let the brain rot begin.

Wii are family.
