A Wickedly Wonderful Week

On Chris's 27th birthday, Jacob decided that a birthday was just too important to waste on one day.  I suppose his three-year-old mind just wasn't impressed with the dinner out we had proclaimed to be Chris's birthday celebration--even though dinner out was pretty rare in those days.  The next day, he saw an ice cream cake sticker clinging to the local Dairy Queen's window and decided that Daddy needed it for his birthday.  The day after that it was a video rental, and the day after that it was a toy, which was, of course, completely self-serving.  And so it went day after day.  Something would catch Jacob's eye, and he would insist that Daddy needed it for his birthday.  After about a week of celebrating Chris's birthday, we finally managed to convince Jacob that the birthday was over, but ever since then birthdays have been more of a week-long extravaganza in our house.

Since it's hard to break with tradition, I usually celebrate my birthday straight through the Fourth of July.  Those fireworks you see every year are for ME.  Trust me, Uncle Sam doesn't mind.

Tonight Chris is taking me to see a musical in San Diego, and I am positively wicked with excitement.
