Benjy was invited to a birthday party by a friend from school, and he was so excited about attending, that I couldn't deny him the pleasure of seeing all his classmates celebrate at a McDonald's Play Land. We made sure that our gift was perfectly wrapped and arrived almost 2 hours late, as is the tradition in Mexico.
Kids of all ages were running in every direction when we arrived, but when the hosts threw the piñata rope over a beam to dangle the smiling bait, the kids quickly organized themselves into a well-formed line.
I
watched with awe and fear as the group of four and five year olds
dismembered the giant Lego man piñata. They swung their sticks with the
force and precision of any homerun-hitting baseball player, all while
singing:
Dale, dale dale (Hit it, hit it, hit it.)
No pierdas el tino (Don't lose your aim.)
Porque si lo pierdes, (Because if you lose it,)
Pierdes el camino. (You will lose your way.)
No pierdas el tino (Don't lose your aim.)
Porque si lo pierdes, (Because if you lose it,)
Pierdes el camino. (You will lose your way.)
Ya le diste uno (You hit it once.)
Ya le diste dos (You hit it twice.)
Ya le diste tres (You hit it three times.)
Y tu tiempo se acabó. (And your time is up.)
Ya le diste dos (You hit it twice.)
Ya le diste tres (You hit it three times.)
Y tu tiempo se acabó. (And your time is up.)
When his leg was ripped from his cardboard body, they descended upon his
broken carcass with gusto, robbing his insides of its precious
sweets-- much like a bunch of hungry zombies feasting on one poor soul
in a horror flick. The Lego Man never stopped smiling.
I love Mexican birthday parties.
Tooo funny! I like the way someone finally explained the true traditional way to hack a pinata. It appears a little more lively than the one I witnessed at Benjy's party at your house last July. Live and learn. Love it!
