Summer is in full swing around here now, which pretty much means that
our neighbors hate us. Between the squeals (or cries) from the
trampoline, the dog's barking at anything that rolls, the never-ending
bouncing of a ball in our backyard, and the heated discussions over
bubbles and sidewalk chalk, I'm sure we're soon to be voted most wanted
residents on the block. And I don't mean wanted for dinner parties and
quinceaneras. I mean wanted-- dead or alive. But if alive, preferably
bound and gagged.
Anyway... When last I wrote we were finishing up the last of the school
year. I'm sure you've been refreshing your browser every day since then
to see if we made it.
I am happy to report that we did!
We survived the last week of school and the end of year ceremonies, even
though I did manage to embarrass Jacob one last time. I swear that the
instructions for the ceremony said he didn't need his navy blue
double-breasted blazer, but every other kid showed up wearing one like
it was 1985. Chris agreed that I had read the instructions correctly,
which really only proved one thing. Neither one of us can read
Spanish. Or, that he's a smart husband. I'm not sure which is better.
Luckily, I arrived early enough to drive back home again to get it
before Jacob's reputation was completely ruined.
I managed not to be the most embarrassing mom at Benjy's end of year
ceremony, mostly because I didn't show up wearing a white linen outfit
with no underwear. Yeah. That award went to another mom or
aunt or cousin or whatever. I tried to take pictures to show to Chris
(who couldn't attend either of his children's events because President
Obama was getting his G20 on down in Los Cabos, Mexico), but my
pictures just didn't do the shock of it justice. Chris called me a
stalker. I just wanted him to
really feel like he was there.
That's why I also took a picture of my view of the ceremony--which
included many, many people's backsides, none of which were Benjy's. No, you cannot see those photos.
After the ceremonies (which were two different days), tables of vendors lined up outside the school to sell balloons, backpacks, princess fairy wands and giant angry birds wrapped in plastic. It was weird, but I really wasn't surprised. But talk about pressure. "Mommy where's my giant angry bird? Juan Jose's mom bought him a giant angry bird and a Toy Story balloon and you didn't get me anything." Mommy's cheap and so is that stuff, darling. Now shut up.
On the second day, I broke down and bought balloons. But I still wore underwear.

Good call on the underwear thing. I think that was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteGlad the school year is over, and you can enjoy the summer! Next time you go o the beach, think of me. We have the beach close, but due to unhealthy conditions, we can't go swimming. We have to wait until we either rent a car or buy one to drive far enough away.
Anyway. I hope you all are doing well!
I needed this blog, as it has been so long since the last one. As usual, it's a good one with lots of information. TMI to be exact, but I am comforted to know that you still wear underwear. Thank God for that. Anyway, our little men are handsome and honorable with their achievements and I am very proud of them. Congrats to Jake & Benjy on their educational journey.
