Freedom

For those of you keeping track at home, we moved again two weeks ago, for the fourth time in one year, and fell into the informational black hole known as lack of internet. But it was all worth it, for now we are residing in a fantastic two-story house with a two car garage and patio/yard and one master key that unlocks all the outside doors.

While the apartment we were originally assigned was beautiful, it wasn’t ideal for a family with three rambunctious boys. Or I guess I should say it wasn’t ideal for my sanity. We had absolutely no outdoor space, not even a balcony, and so nowhere to send the boys to just let them yell and jump and bounce balls and do the things that boys need to do. So we appealed our housing, and the housing board took pity on me (or Chris, who was taking the brunt of my misery), and the appeal was granted.

So hooray for a house! No more schlepping groceries up the elevator while precariously dangling a wriggling baby and dragging a stubborn preschooler for 17 trips from car to apartment. No more elevator code. No more getting locked out when the power goes out (which was like three times in our first week here). No more trying to pick which one of seven keys will be the right one to magically open one of several locks on the five doors leading into the apartment. No more shuffling cars around our one elongated parking space. But most of all, no more being trapped inside.

I hope to post pictures of the new house soon, but until then, just picture us, bouncing rubber balls against the 10-foot cement wall that extends upward into a chain-link fence and is topped with razor wire, with the heat of the sun beaming down on our happy faces.

  3. No worries, my husband grew up living abroad with razor fences and he still loved being a Foreign Service kid.
