Reunited and It Feels So Good

Everyone has been asking us what we plan to do with our three day weekend. Would we take a trip, explore Mexico, explore San Diego, have an adventure? The answer is no. We don't even plan to leave the house. And some of us don't even plan to put on pants.

You see, this week, we got television. One hundred and twenty glorious channels of television. Plus free Starz. Plus a DVR.

When Chris came home from work on Thursday and found the installation guy tacking down the last of the cable wire, he rushed over to the remote and immediately starting scrolling through his vast selection of channels. Wiping tears of joy from his eyes, Chris said, "I've never been more happy in my whole life. Except, of course, when I married you... and the birth of our children... and other important stuff. TV's like a family member to me."

As overwhelming as his sincerity was, I'm not sure how I feel about ranking in the same category as TV, but I'm trying to embrace the remote's reentry into Chris's life. I might as well, I suppose, since the remote hasn't left Chris's hand since it arrived. The one exception was when he went to work on Friday, but I'm pretty sure he kissed it goodbye before he left.

Imagine the excitement in his eyes as he explained to me that, in addition to being able to watch whatever he wants, he can also pause the TV whenever the kids get in the way of his viewing pleasure, which they do-- a lot. The littlest one is especially annoying since he thinks the remote tastes good and keeps insisting on putting its rubbery buttons in his mouth, even though I keep telling him that the remote is "Daddy's family," and we don't eat family.

So as I sit here writing this post, Chris is snuggled up on the couch, with the remote nestled against his cheek and the TV blaring, getting the best nap he's had since we left Virginia.

As for me, I'm just happy we got the TV set up in time to see this.

That's my daddy featured on The 700 Club in the same episode as former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Now that's not something you see every day. At least, not in our house.
