The road to Mexico has been paved with... asphalt. We’ve traveled 2000 miles (more or less) and have had more than our fair share of the road stares. After all, on most of the roads we’ve traveled, there’s not much else to look at. But that hasn’t stopped us from trying.
Our mission: To find big things. That’s right, size does matter. Bigger is better. It’s not the motion of the ocean but the size of the boat that gets the picture taken.
Here’s a peek at what we’ve found so far.
In Springfield, MO we came to a fork in the road. Okay, it wasn’t so much in the road since we actually drove 10 miles out of the way to find it. Time well spent, if you ask the fork.
Apparently the only thing that Oklahomans love more than charging tolls on the interstate is eating Big Macs. This McDonald’s was actually built over the interstate. The good news was it had free restrooms. This is a huge deal in Oklahoma. All the signs told us so.
This Big Chief hailed drivers and eager tourists, like us, off the interstate and advertised a tax-free tobacco shop. The tobacco shop, however, was not plus sized. This adventure cost us $2 in tolls.
Do you see it? Way off in the distance? Look closer. Still don’t see it? That’s because there’s nothing there. Nothing but open range divided only by the black strip of pavement running into the horizon. We stopped to take this picture on the side of the highway between Wichita Falls and Lubbock, TX. There’s nothing bigger than a big, blue Texas sky.
Big horn-rimmed glasses. Who could resist this photo op at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, TX? Even Lisa’s mom had to get in on this excursion. That’s right, we got to visit with my in-laws one last time before running off to Mexico. This time she let Lisa use her toilet paper.
You thought we would forget big piles of food? If so, you underestimate how much we love onion rings. Cheddars serves them up like this. I was going to take a picture of the butt of the woman one table over that needed two chairs (one for each cheek), but I thought she might be offended.
The trip is not over. We will keep you updated as we try to find the next big thing.
SO I don't see a picture of the biggest pancakes... Ham and Eggs in Lewisville, TX.
ReplyDeleteoh well, glad the trip seems to be going well.
