I Don't Speak Acronym

It's open enrollment for federal employees, so I've been trying to wade through the options for health insurance and flexible spending accounts. As if this task weren't daunting enough, I must translate each item from acronym into English. Forget all those other language classes, FSI should dedicate a class solely to acronyms.

The problem is that every time I see or hear a State Department acronym, my eyes glaze over and my brain goes into elevator music mode. It must be some sort of defense mechanism, because as hard as I try to process the acronym, my brain says "Doo bee doo bee doo." Needless to say, I'm not making much headway.

There are plenty of resources available to help with these decisions, but helpful as they may be, my brain refuses to make sense of them. It simply goes to a happier place, where there are ponies and butterflies and ice cream.

Speaking of ice cream, I think I'll go find some before my brain oozes out of my ears.

  1. LOL! So glad I am not the only one. I always end up switching the letters around and confusing whoever I am talking to.

  2. Haha! That is great! I love the idea of FSI offering a foreign language class for their acronyms. I wonder how many powerpoint slides they can make and how many trees they can use?! :) I can't ever keep the names and letters straight!
