Free food? Sign me up.

As you might expect, people are constantly coming and going from our temporary housing apartment complex for training at the Foreign Service Institute. Our family is here for longer than most, and as a result, we have made many friends and seen many of them leave for various destinations abroad. Their departures are always bitter sweet in that we are happy for them to begin their adventures but sad to see them go. We always hope that our paths will cross again one day. And if not, there's always Facebook.

There is one perk to having transient friends, though. They have refrigerators, freezers and pantries of food that just couldn't make the pack-out.  What to do with it all?

Someone has to inherit all those half full bottles of ketchup and mustard and those barely used tubs of butter. Someone has to take in all the displaced frozen chicken breasts, waffles and Hot Pockets. Someone has to give refuge to the boxes of Goldfish, Shake 'N Bake, and Wanchai Ferry.  And that someone, fortunately, is ME.

So for all you that have gone before me, my grocery budget and my palate thank you.

Benjy gives the latest installment a thumbs up.
