One of the pleasures of being a parent is trying to figure out how the minds of young children work. Take this picture for example. At first glance, it may seem like the scribbling of a 3 year-old, which it is, but ask what it is, and a whole new world opens up to you.
Benjy: "This is a Mommy and Daddy. They is crabs. The daddy has a hot dog mouth, and he eats sour cream and crab hot dogs. But, on Saturday, the mommy not let him eat sour cream hot dogs. He's upside down because he walking on the ceiling. She is wearing a hat. These is bushes (pointing to the right of the page) because they live outside because their house flew up into outer space. Whoosh."
Man, that mommy crab is mean. I mean, if there is one day that you should get to eat a sour cream hot dog, it is Saturday. I can't wait/dread the day when he can tell me stories like this in Spanish, because then I will have even less of an idea about what he's talking about.
Love it.
ReplyDeletePriceless! I love it when this age tells about their artwork. There is always such strange detail and imagination.
