Did you know that we have America's second best beach practically right in our backyard?

Well, we do.

And, did you also know that if you call a friend at 7:30 a.m. and propose a spontaneous trip to the second best beach in the U.S., she most likely will say yes?

Well, Emily will anyway.

And, did you know that you can have four kids under four rounded up and be soaking up the sun and snacking on Cheetos on the second best beach in the U.S. a mere two hours later?

Well, we do have to cross an international border after all. That is spontaneous around here.

And, did you know that if you haphazardly spray sunscreen on your own back and then sit in the sun on the second best beach in the U.S. for a couple of hours watching small children play in the sand and marvel at the surf, you will get a sunburn that will make you so desperate for pain relief you will even force your seven-year-old to put down his Nintendo DS and rub in that disgusting blue stuff that is supposed to make it feel better?

Well, you will and it won't help.

But here's to Coronado Beach anyway: second best in America, but first in our hearts, sunburn and all.

And here's to recovery.  Hanging out. At home. Without a bra.
