Thank God it's Saturday

It was just one of those weeks. You know, one of those what were we thinking kind of weeks. Like what was I thinking when I scheduled all of our doctor visits in one week? And what was I thinking scheduling them in the same week as Benjy's birthday? I know one thing; I wasn't thinking the week would turn out the way it did. Here are the highlights.

* Four well check-ups, one emergency visit and one follow up, totaling 6 visits in 4 days.

* Two lost shot records and one forgotten appointment.

* One birthday boy with two birthday bashes.

* One successful preschool registration.

* And a cast of characters including Benjy the Pirate, Jacob the Jedi, Andrew the Hot Head, Buzz Lightyear and Chuck E. Cheese.

Monday: Frantically worked to get paperwork done to get Benjy enrolled in preschool before another procrastinating mom stole the last remaining opening. I made it, and he starts August 30th.

Took Andrew for his four month check-up with the pediatrician. He weighed in at 17.5 lbs. and was declared perfectly healthy in the 90th percentile. He got two shots and an oral vaccination that left him cranky and feverish for the next two days. Hello Andrew the Hot Head.

Sweated it out on the playground with Jacob and Benjy in the record-breaking D.C. heat until Benjy poked himself in the eye with a stick. That's right, he poked himself in the eye with a stick. I don't know why, and I don't know how. I just know that he did. And it hurt, a lot. And he screamed. Two hours later, Benjy returned from the doctor sporting an eye patch and having been declared to have a high threshold for pain since he had a significant scratch through his cornea. We had strict orders to keep his eye covered, so it could heal, and to bring him back the next afternoon. Hello Benjy the Pirate.

Tuesday: Changed Benjy the Pirate's eye patch and then spent most of my time kissing boo-boos (he kept banging into things) until I took him back to the doctor's office. He even tripped twice in the waiting room. Apparently the cornea is the fastest healing organ in the body, and the doctor declared him perfectly healthy once again.. She couldn't even find any sign of trauma. Goodbye Benjy the Pirate. He was getting quite good at saying "Aargh!" At least he didn't make the doctor walk the plank.

Wednesday: Another day, another doctor's appointment. This time for me. I passed the kids off to Chris and rushed to my doctor's office, getting there just in time for my 3 p.m. appointment. The rush was all for naught since they misplaced my paperwork for 45 minutes and left me sitting in the waiting room. By this point I was starting to get a little tired of doctor's offices.

Thursday: Benjy's Birthday! We hosted a 10 a.m. birthday party where all the kids came dressed as their favorite toy. Hello Buzz Lightyear and Jacob the Jedi. Our apartment is still recovering.

Friday: Back to the doctor with Jacob and Benjy for their annual physicals. The shot records that were supposedly faxed and received on Monday were no where to be found by Friday. Hello frustration. At least the boys were happy they didn't have to get shots that day. Not me though. Now we have to go back again...
