Take Two

One of the perks of working for the government while living abroad is double the holidays. We celebrate all the U.S. federal holidays as well as all the Mexico federal holidays. So when El Dia de la Madre (Mexico’s Mother’s Day) fell on Tuesday this year, my family got a second chance to wow me with their love and thoughtful gifts. And of course, I was more than willing to cash in on another day aimed at celebrating me.

Mother’s Day--Mexican style or take two-- was not nearly as exciting for the rest of the family as the first one, but it was just my speed. Since Jacob goes to school in the U.S., he didn’t have the day off, but the consulate granted Chris the day off so he could devote himself to my every whim. It was very thoughtful of them.

Unfortunately, my vision for Mother’s Day didn’t include him rubbing my feet while Benjy fanned me with palm leaves and Andrew fed me grapes. That would be the life. Next year, I will dream bigger.

Anyway, the day was lovely and normal. We lunched at Chili’s where the kids ate free, and then Chris bought me a new Nikon S9100 camera. Sweet.

But no camera in the world (no matter how awesome yet portable) could compete with this Mother’s Day gem from Jacob.

I love you because you cook, help me, you watch TV with me. You are the bomb!

So there you have it folks: my mad mom skills in a nut shell. And don’t forget. I’m the bomb.
