“Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but it sure makes the rest of you lonely.” –Charlie Brown

They have this saying in the Foreign Service that you never say goodbye, only see you later.  If fate and Uncle Sam be willing, paths will cross again and friends will be reunited.

The thing is no matter how you phrase it, we say a lot of goodbyes in service to country and words do little to patch the hole left by every removed friend and loved one.  Since we left Tijuana last October, we've been saying a lot of goodbyes, see you laters, and until we meet agains.  Emotionally, I'm just about spent.  And I'm out of words.

Today, after a year of preparation and three months of farewells, Chris boarded a plane on the first leg of his three day journey that will take him to Kabul, Afghanistan for the year.

See you later my love, my heart, my best friend.

  3. That is an awesome picture. Tearing up for you and all the see you laters you are going through. Hoping the time flies to the R&Rs and then slows down while you get to reunite. Hang in there.
